What to Expect the Day of Das Bake-Auf:
Check-in is between 11 – 11:30 in the Big Red Barn. Please bring yourself and your confection to the barn, not later than 11:30 to drop off your confection and receive your Bakers Number.
Judging will begin at noon (we will update information about who is judging the event once that information is available, keep an eye on our Facebook Page).
Winners will be announced in the Big Red Barn after judging is completed That time is dependent upon number of entries, so please return to the barn by 1:30.
Rules for Confection Submission:
- All confections must be made in a home kitchen! No store bought items!
- Participants may enter any recipe and that recipe does not need to be an original recipe created by the entrant.
- All confections must be entered on a disposable serving dish along with a legibly written (preferably typed) list of ingredients (please do not include measurements, we just want to know what’s in it for safety reasons!). This list of ingredients must have the title of the dish, the list of ingredients, and NOTHING ELSE.
- All submissions will become property of Colorado Springs OktoberFest
- Please DO NOT submit anything that requires refrigeration; as a heads up this event is held in an old (like 100 years old) Barn with no refrigeration.
- All entries are to be submitted as a whole (complete cake, complete strudel, etc.) or in the quantity of one dozen (12) or more cookies/bars.
How will Confections be Judged?
All entries must be home baked and meet the requirements of the category entered. Entries will be judged in the following criteria:
- Appearance (maximum of 10 points)
- Taste (maximum of 10 points)
- Creativity (maximum of 10 points)
- Authenticity (maximum of 10 points)
Maximum total of 40 points are possible.
How will Finalists be Selected?
Entries are confidential for judging. Judges are required to taste test all entries. Each judge will complete a judging sheet which will indicate each entry’s score. Each criterion will require a score of 1 to 10 dependent on that criterion. A combined score will be calculated to indicate the final scoring placement.
All decisions by the judges are final.
Baked goods will be sold after judging to raise money for the event.
